M Iqbal Mulla re-elected as president of TAAI

 

The 62nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) recently held in Bengaluru witnessed a tie for the position of president and one managing committee member. The tie for the president’s position was between M Iqbal Mulla and Rajinder Rai, while for the managing committee it was between Mukesh Patel and Gurmeet Singh Vij. However, Mulla has been re-elected as president for the term 2013-15.

 

The other new office bearers for the term 2013-15 include: Sunil Kumar R as vice president; Harmandeep Singh Anand as secretary general and Marzban Antia as treasurer. While the managing committee members consists of Lokesh Bettaiah, Imtiaz Qureshi, Kirti Vyas, Jyoti Mayal, Jay Bhatia, Vijay Mohan Raj, Mukesh Patel. All the elected managing committee members have assumed their respective offices including Mulla and Patel.

 

As per the communique from the association, the decision was taken as per the provisions of Article 79 of the Articles of Association of TAAI, as in case of equality of votes the chairman is entitled to a second or casting vote in addition to his own vote to which he is entitled to as a member. Mulla, chairman of 62nd AGM of TAAI had exercised his right and had cast his vote under the said Article 79 in favour of Patel and declared him to be elected as a member of the managing committee for the term 2013-15 as against Vij. Further, Mulla also exercised his right under the said Article and cast his vote in favour of himself and declared himself as the president for the term 2013-15 as against Rai.
