The tourism in Konkan is set to receive a big boost as the 5th edition of the Global Konkan Festival in 2015 will be hosted in London, revealed the Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan. During a curtain raiser of the 3rd edition of Global Konkan Festival which is being hosted in Mumbai from January 4-7, 2013, at Bombay Exhibition Centre, the announcement came from the festival organising body. Bhai Jagtap said, “It is time to bring Konkan on the global platform to attract international tourists. Konkan has a vast coastline and many unexplored exciting destinations which can enthrall the tourists. With the objective of attracting global tourists in Konkan, we would host the festival’s 5th edition in 2015 in London.”
Sanjay Yadavrao, President, Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan said, “In previous editions, we have observed that about 50 to 60 per cent audience visiting the Global Konkan Festival are non-Konkanis. Hence, our objective of taking Konkan to other communities and ethnicities has been achieved.” The Global Konkan Festival – 2015 (London) will be hosted in tie-up with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
