Finnair and Amadeus introduce EMD functionality in India

ETW STAFFNew Delhi

Amadeus has become the first Global Distribution System (GDS) provider to launch Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) functionality with Finnair in India. EMD allows Finnair to increase its reach and deliver greater choices by offering seamless selling of ancillary services to travel agencies in India. EMD is an electronic record used to capture data about a sale and track its usage. The functionality is issued as an accountable document for a payment received (e.g. reservation change fee, date change penalty, excess baggage, etc.) and as a credit note or voucher (e.g. residual value/compensation) and settled just like standard e-tickets using existing settlement plans from BSP India. Since the functionality will be fully integrated in the Amadeus system, it will offer a single view in the PNR with automatic reporting in the BSP sales report as well as back office systems via the Amadeus Interface Record.

Desmond Chacko, country sales manager, Finnair – India said, “Finnair is delighted to partner Amadeus in this innovative and pioneering venture in India. We are certain that this will greatly enhance customer convenience.”

Commenting on the launch, Rakesh Bansal, CEO, Amadeus India said, “Amadeus has constantly been working towards offering innovative solutions to its travel agency partners to improve productivity at the counter staff level as well as maximising revenue opportunities. We are proud to launch the EMD functionality with Finnair for travel agencies in India. This functionality will help travel agencies sell ancillary services on Finnair and the same can be accounted for via the BSP in India. In addition, it will help Finnair enhance its offering and customer service with increased revenue streams from ancillary services.”
