Tenzing Norgay Lifetime Achievement Award for Mandip Singh Soin

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for the year 2012 to recognise the achievements of persons in the fields of adventure. This will  be presented on August 29, 2012 at the Rashtrapati Bhawan by the president of India. These awards were instituted in 1993 and are given to individuals excelling in adventure activities on land, sea and air and are named after Tenzing Norgay, who climbed Mount Everest in 1953 along with Edmund Hillary. This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Mandip Singh Soin. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society Soin has spent over 40 years in the field of adventure. His expeditions have spanned six continents.

The founder and managing director of Ibex Expeditions, he is also the honorary founder president of the Ecotourism Society of India, the senior vice president of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, and a member of the National Tourism Advisory Council of India.
