AmaWaterways, which operates high end luxury river cruises in Europe, Vietnam, Cambodia, Russia and Africa will now be accessible to the Indian market through Delhi-based Indian Travel Promotion Company (ITPL). The cruises will be launched in India in September this year. Speaking to Express TravelWorld, Amitava Mukherjee, GM, business development, ITPL said, “Cruising has taken off in India and people are certainly aware of river cruising. Indian travellers are spending and experimenting and since AmaWaterways is a very upmarket product, we expect it will do very well.”

At the time of launching in India, a seven-night cruise would be priced at US$ 1999 per person, going up to US$ 2999. Asked whether it would be a challenge promoting river cruising in a market which was more used to deep sea cruising, Mukherjee said there was a market for high-end luxury cruises. ITPL plans to tie up with agents who are promoting Europe to sell AmaWaterways. The product will be launched in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata in September.
