Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

Situated 115 km from Itanagar, Ziro is the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh and a UNESCO World Heriatge Site. At an altitude of 1500 m above sea level, the place is home to the Apatani tribe and is famous for the paddy-cum-pisciculture cultivation. The town is also popular for the Ziro Festival of Music which goes on for over four days in the month of September. Try out the unique local cuisine that Ziro offers like bamboo chicken with rice beer. Take the opportunity to explore the flora and fauna at the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. It is spread over 337 sq km and offers shelter to clouded leopards admist the silver fir trees, orchids, bamboo, ferns and rhodendron. The best time to visit is during the Murung Rituals held in January and during the Dree Festival of July where the tribe practice animal sacrifices to honour the Gods.
