Literally translated as ‘a hundred thousand islands’ in Malayalam, Lakshadweep is the tiniest Union Territory of India with 36 islands having a total area of 32 sq.kms. Ten islands namely – Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy are inhabited. All these islands are endowed with the beauty of coral reefs, sandy beaches, unpolluted and clear water and hospitable settings. Some islands also have diving and water sports, there are plenty of opportunities for scuba diving, Yachting, pedal boating, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. One may also visit local houses, the marine museum, lighthouse and a few local agro industries.
