Let’s travel together.

Bicholim, North Goa

Bicholim, also known as Dicholi, lies in the mining heartland of Goa. Situated in North Goa, the town is about 30 kilometres from the capital Panjim. Bicholim has a beautiful landscape dotted with scenic lakes and lush waterfalls. The Mayem Lake is a popular tourism destination here and amidst rolling hills, the lake is surrounded by a vast countryside made up of cashew trees, making it one of the most attractive nature spots in Goa. The Goa Tourism Development Department has even developed a boating area along with a resort here. The place is also rich in history as it welcomes visitors with ancient Hindu temples and even old conquests are found across the river which are Hindu precincts. Celebrated every year in May, Igitun Chalne is a festival that takes place in the temple of Sirigao where visitors and locals crowd around the temple to watch the rituals. Igitun Chalne means walking through fire and true to its name there are walks on fire, by a few courageous people. These people are devotees of Goddess Lairaya, who believe that in going through the trial by fire and submitting their feet, the power of their faith is seen.
